RCF TT+ Line Array System on board Viking Line M/S Rosella
Viking Line commenced service in 1959, when the S/S Viking began sailing between the Finnish mainland, the Åland Islands and Sweden. Today Viking Line has seven vessels, which sail between the Finnish mainland, Åland and Sweden as well as between Finland and the Baltic states. Operations include passenger services, recreation and cargo carrier services.
After renewing M/S Rosella’s dance restaurant to the height of two floors, Mr. Jouni Sironen, the AV Manager of Viking Line, was looking after the Line Array set, which could support live music and entertainment. After few demo listenings, RCF TTL 31A was chosen for the new system.
The system consists of rigged TTL 12AS and (4) TTL 31A per side and TTS 28A subs in the center ground stack to produce the perfect bass coverage. (4) RCF C 3108W delay speakers fill the back parts of low height first floor.
RCF’s Finnish distributor Noretron Communication Ltd supplied the equipments and the installation was carried out by the Viking Line’s own technical team and Noretron’s personnel. Two days in Estonian dockyard and the installers and the users were more than satisfied with TT+.
RCF TT+ System Provides Support For Philip Glass Ensemble.
The Philip Glass Ensemble along with the New York Philharmonic orchestra and the Collegiate Choir recently performed Philip Glass's powerful music for the 1982 Godfrey Reggio film "Koyaanisqatsi: Life Out Of Balance" at Avery Fisher Hall in Lincoln Center. The landmark film was projected on a large screen above the stage throughout the performance.
Simon Nathan, owner of Audio Production Services of Amawalk, NY, worked closely with Dan Dryden, FOH engineer for the Philip Glass Ensemble, to design the sound system for the event.
"Because Avery Fisher hall is home to the Philharmonic, it doesn't have an in-house system that could handle this performance," explains Nathan. "We were asked to provide a high quality system that could cover the entire hall without impeding any stage site lines and provide clean, consistent sound throughout the room."
The choice was the compact RCF TT+ Series, with single arrays each comprised of 10 TTL31-A modules flown left and right, attached to the overhead stage grid.
"When specifying systems for the ensemble I'm looking for smaller line arrays with flat frequency response," explains Dryden. "These were perfect. The low-mid frequencies are rich and warm, and the coverage was excellent.”
The overall footprint of these arrays was relatively small, measuring just less than two feet wide by only about 10 feet deep. The self-powered, 2-way active line array modules are outfitted with a single-8-inch cone driver and three compression drivers feeding a horn with horizontal dispersion of 100 degrees. They proved capable of covering all four levels of seating (main and three balconies) as well as boxes.
"When specifying systems for the Ensemble I'm looking for smaller line arrays with flat frequency response," explains Dryden. "These were perfect. The low-mid frequencies are rich and warm and the coverage was excellent. I was very pleased with the result."
The mains were joined by four TTS56-A dual 21-inch subwoofers, two side-by-side on each side of the stage, and each of these sub sets hosted a single TT25 compact powered loudspeaker supplying in fill presence, particularly for higher frequencies. The house loudspeaker complement was completed with front fill via four TT052-A low-profile 2-way loudspeakers deployed evenly along the front lip of the stage.
"The hall seats 2,800 with 3 balconies and box seats – it is a very large room," adds Nathan. "The arrays had no problem throwing all of the way to the back row of the top balcony without any need for delay fills. We had plenty of power for the space."
"This system was right up there with its more well-known competitors," Dryden concludes. "I will be adding it to my riders for future Philip Glass Ensemble events – I would definitely use it again."

The Art 4 series has taken a step forward with new improved features. The MK II is an improved version of the current Art 4 and features brand new designed ceramic transducers (to replace the neodymium) providing even better punch in the sound and upgraded EQ.
In developing the new drivers we have re-engineered and improved the SPL and dynamics, and reduced the harmonic distortion. The only difference you will notice with the ART4 series is the physics — while the dimensions remain the same, the weight of the enclosures has increased.
With the new Art 4 MK II series we continue our commitment to our customers to constantly improve our product series and always providing the best solution through focus on technology and innovation. This is our trademark and dates back to 1949.

RCF’s kosmische Reise ins Wunderland
